According to Fred Maxik, ‘Lighting is not just about illumination, it’s about creating a sense of comfort and well-being.’

What is the most common mistake people make when it comes to interior lighting?

‘People often focus too much on the type of light bulb they use, rather than the overall lighting design,’ says Maxik. ‘They might choose a bulb that is energy-efficient, but it may not provide the right kind of light for their specific needs.’

Maxik emphasizes the importance of considering the different types of lighting that are needed in a room. ‘There are three main types of lighting: ambient, task, and accent lighting,’ he explains. ‘Ambient lighting provides overall illumination, task lighting helps with specific tasks, and accent lighting highlights certain features.’

How can people create a better lighting design in their homes?

‘Start by identifying the different areas of your home where you need different types of lighting,’ advises Maxik. ‘For example, you may need more task lighting in your kitchen or more ambient lighting in your living room.’

Maxik also recommends using dimmers to adjust the lighting levels in different rooms. ‘Dimming allows you to create different moods and ambiances in your home,’ he says. ‘It’s a great way to create a sense of relaxation or energy, depending on your needs.’

What are some of the benefits of using interior lighting to improve sleep and health?

‘Proper lighting can help regulate your circadian rhythms, which can improve the quality of your sleep,’ explains Maxik. ‘It can also help reduce eye strain and improve your overall mood.’

Maxik notes that the benefits of proper lighting extend beyond just sleep and health. ‘Good lighting can also improve your productivity and focus,’ he says. ‘It can even help reduce stress and anxiety.’
